Through the exploration of colour and texture, Matt’s work takes the viewer on a journey, one that acts as a conduit to the exploration of their own relationship to emotion and memory. Capturing misremembered landscapes from obscured memories, viewers are invited to share the emotions embedded in each piece - embracing their own reflections and creating personal memories that contribute to the wider context of Matt’s body of work

His work can be found in rooms of the British Institution, Claridge’s Hotel, aboard Saga Cruise Ships and in the homes of numerous private collectors across the globe.

ZEE VAN G

Born in 1990, Zee van Gils is a Dutch artist who unearthed her passion for resin when she worked alongside the first surfboard shapers of a small fishing village in Lombok, Indonesia.

Zee’s work is an ode to mother nature's ever-changing balance and contrast, and an appreciation of the way it has helped her heal and grow as a person.

Solidifying fluid movements in delicate layers, she invites the observer to stay curious; to come closer, to see these layers and details from different angles and in changing light.

Her art is a daily reminder that nature is always there for us to enjoy in all its moods and seasons. It's there when we need solace, peace, grounding and stillness.

A place to come back to ourselves.

Merging aerial perspectives with a vision of the ocean surface from below, she aims to capture colours, textures, layers and patterns in her own abstract interpretation of mother nature's elements.

Zee's endless inspiration is stored in her mind; memories of visuals of nature from her travels; her colour palettes are drawn from the sea, sky and earth.

NINA BROOKE

To kick off our autumn programme, we are showing a small collection of new paintings and prints by Cornwall-based artist and JOY EDITIONS founder Nina Brooke. Her work is a beautiful contrast to J.J Midwinter’s monochrome photographic artworks and we are thrilled to show this pairing of artists in the space at Joy Editions.

Nina’s paintings capture the joy of a summer spent in the UK, exploring the north coast of Cornwall, as seen from an aerial perspective.

Dive in and enjoy!

J.J MIDWINTER

Coinciding with the launch of his new book, ‘The Waves Between’, Joy Editions is delighted to present an exhibition of photographs by J.J Midwinter, a British artist living and working in Newquay, Cornwall.

His minimalist monochrome images take the viewer out of themselves, soaring beyond the edges of the land to a place of stillness and solitude.

The paired-back compositions are an ode to the delight and sense of freedom that arises from connecting with the ocean - surfing a wave, watching the sets roll in from the shore or walking a  coastal path - these images aim to transport us to these experiences - exposed us to the visceral elements; the constant motion of the waves and the ebbing tides.

LULU ASH

‘By The Sea’ was the inaugural exhibition, shown at Joy Editions from 12 - 24 August 2021.

By the Sea features a collection of limited edition fine art prints from an ongoing personal project by Cornwall based photographer Lulu Ash.

During the summer of 2020, when the country was emerging from lockdown and people were free to enjoy the seaside once more, Lulu was enchanted by a heightened appreciation for the beauty of her local coastline. Embracing the growing crowds she captured these nostalgic scenes celebrating seaside culture on our shores.
